Somebody's Watching Me
When I say somebody's watching me, I'm not referring to the Rockwell song back in the 80's, great song by the way, nor am I referring to imaginary figures spying on me.
Maybe an example will provide some clarification. Since my father entered the memory care center for Alzheimer's, I have only visited him with other family members. The environment there is unpredictable, anxiety-provoking, and somewhat chaotic. You never know what to expect.
With that being said, I want visit my father while I still have him in my life even though he will forget my visits 15 minutes after I leave, at most.
I decided to make an impromptu visit by myself after much internal debate because I do get affected emotionally by going to there.
When I checked in with the clerk, she said, "Oh, it must be family visit day." I didn't get it. She explained that my sister had just arrived.
I hadn't spoken to my sister and had no clue she had planned on visiting our father.
Relief flooded me. My visit wouldn't be done solo. And let me point out, the patients were in rare form: moody, yelling, and carrying on more than usual. It was in no way, shape, or form a relaxing experience. But having my sister there made it bearable.
So when I say somebody's watching over me, I guess I mean something.
Some might chalk up me and my sister showing up unannounced to visit our father at the same exact time, on the same exact day during the week, a coincidence.
I believe it's more than that. I believe the something watching over me took care of me, that same something that has been watching over me throughout my life and gives me inner strength.
I am in awe at how things work out sometimes.
Let's be open-minded to the coincidences that happen in our lives. I believe they happen for a reason.
