Finding Neverland

We saw the show Finding Neverland yesterday and it really touched my heart, which surprised me since I had no desire to go and only did so because the show was part of our subscription package to the theater.

What is Neverland? A place "where dreams are born, and time is never planned. Just think of happy things, and your heart will fly on wings, forever."

It came to me during the musical that writing is my Neverland. It takes me away to a happy place, makes me feel like I can fly (not literally of course).

I think it's so important for each of us to have something that makes us feel free, alive. And by no means am I referring to substances or other things that can harm us. As long as the escape doesn't prevent us from dealing with life and cause us to ignore our responsibilities, I feel we all deserve to have that special thing that can create the joy of Neverland.

With the office situation settling, I am finding a groove where I can work for my husband AND edit. I've noticed that since I've made time to work on my manuscripts, that inner light inside me has begun to twinkle again (like my choice of words? Fairy dust, Tinkerbell, in case you didn't see where I was going with that).

I guess it goes back to that black and white thinking I seem to do so well. When things changed at my husband's office which required me to be there full time, I couldn't see a time in the near future for when I'd be able to work on my novels again. But guess what? I printed them out, hundreds and hundreds of pages, mind you, so that I can work on them when I have down time at the office. I found a way to make it work and feel lighter as a result.

My point is, where there's a will, there's a way. Sometimes we just have to take the blinders off in order to see how we can make things work to our benefit.

So to finish with another quote from Peter Pan, "Those who don't believe in magic, will never find it."

Here's to finding the magic inside us. We all have it. It's just a matter of finding it.
